FW: Confirmed: Windows XP on Mac done!

The infamous narf2006 has made good on his earlier promise to provide a video of Windows XP booting on an Intel-based iMac. While the video looks fairly convincing, we’ll continue to reserve judgment at least until Colin Nederkoorn hands narf a check. Narf has sent his solution to Colin for testing, so this does indeed seem real. Now let’s see if it’s reproducible!Watch the video (7.7MB MOV) Alternate here. Read about the contestUpdate: It’s over, done with, and the check is in the mail- literally. Colin Nederkoorn has just verified the solution that the now-famous narf and fellow programmer blanka came up with for dual-booting Windows XP and OS X on an Intel-powered Mac, and announced that all future donations to the project will be go towards the open-source work that will evolve from the contest

Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame on VH1

Korábban lelkendeztem, hogy a Black Sabbath sok év jelölése után végre a Hall of Fame-be került. Most lesz 21-dikén 9.00pm-kor a beiktatási ceremóniáról egy összeállítás a VH1-en (http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/hall_of_fame_2006/series.jhtml). A banda számait a Metallica játszotta.

Az egyidejűleg beiktatott Sex Pistols-ról és Blondie-ról visszafogottan csak annyit mondok, hogy nem kellett volna.

:-(( UEFI – Microsoft Shuts Windows on New PC Firmware

Microsoft has pushed back its plans to support a new type of PC firmware, called UEFI, or United Extensible Firmware Interface, which has begun working its way into the PC market. Microsoft said in a presentation during last week’s Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco that the software giant would not roll out UEFI support?adopting the new firmwa…

UEFI, ironically, supports the Microsoft plan. The firmware was designed to work with both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems and to be backward-compatible with OSes designed to work with BIOS—on the desktop, the bulk of the OSes which will be used are 32-bits—using a special Software Compatibility Module to emulate BIOS functions.

Thus, UEFI Forum members, which include Microsoft, Intel, Advanced Micro Devices, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and BIOS makers American Megatrends, Insyde Technologies and Phoenix Technologies, agreed to focus on delivering 64-bit UEFI implementations in PCs, using compatibility modules as a bridge to non-EFI OSes, a person familiar with the matter said.

I know you would never copy & paste a password, but maybe you’ve got other sensitive stuff on your clipboard. I thought it’s kinda spooky that web sites can see what’s on your clipboard.

FW: Bochs emulator helping to boot Windows on Intel Macs

IBM researchers Singh, Smith & Reed are developing in their free time legacy BIOS support for Intel Macs. "BAMBIOS" is using Boch’s BIOS emulation code and has also adapted its graphical BIOSes for the current ATi and Intel graphics chipsets used on the Intel Macs today. The BIOS itself loads as a small EFI-capable OS that then chainloads to a second stage boot manager to then boot non-EFI OSes.Full Story At Source
