FW: Microsoft has patched more critical vulnerabilities than 2004 and 2005 combined

Valami igenis történt a biztonság ügyében.

http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/McafeeAvertLabsBlog/~3/10131365/

Today Microsoft patched 23 vulnerabilities of which 15 are rated critical. One of the critical vulnerabilities, (MS06-040) Service Server vulnerability, can be remotely exploited by an anonymous user on all Windows operating systems and has been labeled a worm candidate.
The update of our graphs of last month is found below. The top graph shows that this year Microsoft has already addressed more critical vulnerabilities than in 2004 and 2005 combined. The bottom graph shows that the number of important vulnerabilities has not changed.Critical Vulnerabilities addressed by Microsoft

This month 11 patched vulnerabilities were already public or were already exploited in-the-wild prior to today’s announcements. Among them is the vulnerability in Powerpoint that was exploited in targeted attacks in mid-July.

No need to remind you to review your deployments now!

FW: Lightweight Alternatives to Heavyweight Programs

The Adbobe PDF document that is currently loading is slowing down the whole computer ? Quicktime takes ages to initialise ? Media Player is unbelievable slow and tries to phone home ? Why don´t you try freeware alternatives to those heavyweight programs ? I´am already using alternatives and my system became faster and more stable while keeping the same functionality.

[SFC] FW: Bringing the Menus to the Top in IE7

In the IE7 Beta 2 Preview the UI element that hosts menus and 3rd party toolbars is located between the navigation bar and tabs. However, in this release there’s a registry key which you can set to move this to the top of the window instead:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser] "ITBar7Position"=dword:00000001

You can also turn off the menu auto-hide functionality by checking Tools -> Toolbars -> Classic Menus from the Command Bar.

Disclaimer: This is not an official feature at this time and may not be available in the future.

One minor request: If you think you want to use this key please try it both ways with your toolbars and menus configured how you like them, especially if you use the Links bar and 3rd party toolbars. Also, yes I’m very aware that some people who previously did heavy toolbar customization in IE6 have concerns about the customizability of IE7. I hope this will help a bit, but if you just came here to flame please make it constructive. That will maximize your chances of getting heard. Ok, that’s two requests. 🙂
